Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between A2 and B1 Dutch? +

A2 is the level needed for most inburgering (civic integration) exams: you can handle everyday situations with simple sentences. B1 is a step up — needed for naturalisation (becoming a Dutch citizen) and some study or work routes. B1 expects correct word order in sub-clauses, the perfect tense, and relative pronouns (die/dat). This test checks exactly those grammar pieces to estimate where you sit.

Is this level test official? +

No. This is a free practice estimate based on a few short Dutch grammar questions, not the official DUO exam. It's a quick read on your level so you know where to start. The real inburgering exam is booked and taken through DUO (inburgeren.nl).

Do I need an account to take the level test? +

No. The test runs entirely in your browser — no signup, no email, no payment. You answer a few questions and get your estimate instantly. You only create an account if you want a full personalised study plan afterwards.

How many questions are in the test? +

Between one and three short questions. The test is adaptive: it starts at the level you report, then steps up or down based on your answers to find your floor quickly. That's why it's faster than a full exam — it stops as soon as it has a confident read.

The questions are in Dutch — is that right? +

Yes. The instructions and your result are in English, but the grammar questions themselves are in Dutch — because the test measures your Dutch, not your English. Each question is a short word-order or multiple-choice item drawn from real A2 and B1 grammar.

What should I do after I get my level? +

Start a plan at your level. If you're placed at A2 but aiming for B1, the fastest route is a short A2 grammar stretch first, then straight into B1 practice — the app builds that path for you, with writing and speaking practice and instant AI feedback. It's free to start.
