The Holocaust was the systematic murder of Jewish people during World War II. Many Joodse Nederlanders (Dutch Jews) were deported to camps and killed. This happened during WWII, not WWI or the Cold War.
Dodenherdenking (Remembrance Day) is on May 4th (4 mei) and remembers all victims of WWII. At 8:00 PM there is two minutes of silence. The next day, May 5th, is Bevrijdingsdag (Liberation Day), which celebrates the end of Nazi occupation in 1945.
The Deltawerken (Delta Works) were built to protect the Netherlands from the sea (beschermen tegen de zee). They were built in response to the 1953 flood disaster (Watersnoodramp). The Oosterscheldekering is the largest storm surge barrier — 9 km long with 65 pillars.
